Crystalline lens

The crystalline lens is the transparent body behind the iris that fine-tunes the focus of light onto the retina. Unlike the cornea it can change shape, switching focus between distance and near.

With age the lens stiffens and loses flexibility, which leads to presbyopia. Later it may cloud over, producing a cataract, at which point the natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens.
