LASIK

LASIK is laser vision correction in which a thin flap is created on the surface of the cornea and lifted, an excimer laser reshapes the tissue beneath, and the flap is laid back down. No stitches are used; it adheres on its own.

The advantages are rapid recovery of vision and little discomfort, because the surface layer of the cornea is preserved. The drawback is that the flap remains in the cornea permanently.

Suitability is decided mainly by the thickness and shape of the cornea, the size of the refractive error and the state of the tear film.
