Lenticule

A lenticule is the thin disc of tissue that a femtosecond laser cuts inside the cornea during SMILE. Removing it changes the shape of the cornea and with it the refractive error of the eye.

Its thickness and shape correspond to the error being corrected, rather as if a lens were being taken out of the cornea itself.
