Penetrating keratoplasty

Penetrating keratoplasty is the classic transplant, in which the cornea is exchanged through its full thickness and the graft is secured with sutures. It is the oldest and most extensive form of the procedure.
It is used where all layers of the cornea are damaged. Healing and the settling of vision take longer than with lamellar methods.
