Dry eye syndrome

Dry eye syndrome arises when there are too few tears or they evaporate too quickly and the tear film stops doing its job. It causes burning, stinging, a gritty sensation and vision that blurs and clears.

Paradoxically it can also cause watering, when the eye answers irritation with a surge of tears. Screen work, air conditioning and contact lens wear all make it worse.
