Corneal flap

A corneal flap is the thin layer on the surface of the cornea that the surgeon lifts during LASIK to reach the tissue underneath. Afterwards it is laid back, where it adheres without stitches.

It stays in the cornea permanently as an area of altered strength, one of the differences from surface methods and from SMILE.
