Capsular bag
Also known as: lens capsule
The capsular bag is the thin transparent envelope holding the natural crystalline lens. During cataract surgery its contents are removed but the bag itself is preserved and the artificial lens is placed inside it.
This keeps the new lens in the eye’s natural position and holds it stable.
