Slit lamp
Also known as: biomicroscope
The slit lamp is the core instrument of an eye clinic. It shines a narrow band of light onto the eye and, through a microscope, lets the doctor view its individual layers almost as a cross-section.
The doctor sits opposite you while your chin rests on a support. The examination is painless and does not involve touching the eye.
