Age-related macular degeneration is a disease of the macula affecting central, sharpest vision. It shows up as a blurred or distorted centre of the image, while peripheral vision remains intact.
A dry and a wet form are distinguished, differing in course and in treatment options. Straight lines that appear wavy are a warning sign and a reason to see a doctor.
